Steve Caffrey
Candidate for President, Pima Pistol Club
My goal as President: To provide responsible leadership, protect Club resources, promote transparency, maintain facilities, and serve all members and shooting disciplines.
My career started with teaching chemistry and physics at the high school and junior college levels for nine years. I spent most of my working career in the bowling industry. Retiring in 2013 as Vice President of Sales for Brunswick Bowling I bring proven experience in leadership, operations, financial responsibility, and working with people.
I began shooting in 2012 and have served PPC as Match Director for Action Pistol and Steel Challenge. I bring hands-on experience in range leadership, safety, competition, and firearms training as an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, Basic Pistol Instructor, and former IDPA Safety Officer.
My Commitment to Members of PPC
Transparency: I will keep Club business open and accountable to members, reserving Executive Sessions for matters that genuinely require confidentiality.
Financial Responsibility: Club funds belong to the membership and must be managed responsibly. Money should be used for legitimate Club activities, necessary expenses, and the benefit of the membership.
Facilities & Equipment: I will prioritize range maintenance, timely repairs, and responsible equipment decisions—taking care of what we have before spending on what we don’t need.
Supporting All Shooting Disciplines: PPC has a long tradition of promoting shooting sports and matches. Our Articles of Incorporation recognize the importance of fostering and encouraging matches for members and others.

Clif Payne
Candidate for Board Member, Pima Pistol Club
I moved to Arizona from Massachusetts in 1990 and have been here ever since. Growing up as a military kid, I attended schools in Spain, Morocco, and the United States. I served in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1978.
I’m a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles. My two Gold Wings have logged some 500,000 miles—so I’ve learned a thing or two about maintenance, planning, and staying on the road.
In 2013 I joined Pima Pistol Club as a casual shooter, looking to enjoy pistol shooting and meet some new friends. That eventually led to competing in Steel Challenge and Action Pistol. I currently serve as the Steel Challenge Match Director and have filled in with Rimfire Challenge and Action Pistol when needed.
I’m running for an open Member position on the PPC Board. My priorities are straightforward:
Promote a safe, welcoming, member-centered club
Maintain and improve our facilities
Communicate clearly and openly with members.
Be responsible with the club’s finances
Listen to members’ ideas, concerns, and, yes, even their complaints
If elected, I’ll work with other directors to retain what’s good about PPC while looking forward to the club's future. I believe in following our bylaws, treating members fairly, and remembering a simple fact: Pima Pistol Club belongs to its members.

Paul Mayfield
Right out of high school, I joined the Navy, and spent just shy of 21 years, 13 of which were on 6 different ships (from frigate to aircraft carrier!). On the last 4, I was a member of the ship’s force protection teams, reacting to various training scenarios such as hostage taking, intruder alerts, bomb threats, etc. Room clearing, and personnel safety were constantly stressed, and I learned a lot about both weapon safety and use of deadly force.
I have since acquired several weapons (both rifles and pistols) and try to train with them as often as I can afford the ammo, and range time! I was also involved with the rewrite/improvements of the Range Safety Manual, of which I’m proud to have added some suggestions to make the range more flexible and versatile with member needs.
I would like to join the board to assist with the forward-looking vision of the range, personnel, and members to ensure that future generations of shooters will enjoy the same privileges that we have now, as well as enhancements to make the experience even more enjoyable.
Robert Rosebrough
I retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of flying HH-60G Pavehawk rescue helicopters in 2022. During my time in the military, I had the good fortune to be a commander twice, and have the opportunity to run a multi-million dollar exercise right here in Tucson.
I moved back to Tucson in 2023 and immediately re-joined Pima Pistol Club. I have been a competitive shooter since 2015, and care a lot about the shooting sports. I want to make sure we all have a place to enjoy the sport/ hobby/ passion/ obsession that we all share. I’m a Tuesday morning regular at the club in addition to weekend matches.
Gary Szczepanski
My wife, Mary, and I have been married for 62 years and have called Tucson home for most of our lives. I bought my first pistol when I was 19 and have enjoyed hunting elk, deer, and coyote over the years. I’ve been an active member of Pima Pistol Club for more than four decades and have served on the Board three previous times.
I’m running for an open Member seat on the PPC Board because I care about this club and want to help keep it strong. I’ve spent many years shooting at PPC and volunteering my time—helping set up competitive matches and pitching in on various handyman projects around the club.
I want PPC to remain a place where members can practice, compete, learn, and enjoy the camaraderie that has been part of the club for generations.If elected, I’ll focus on practical improvements, range safety, and keeping the club’s governance and business dealings open and straightforward. I’m not looking to change things just for the sake of change. I want to build on what works, fix what needs attention, and make sure we continue to operate the club to a high standard.
Most of all, I want to help keep Pima Pistol Club a safe, positive, and welcoming place where members can enjoy shooting, compete with others, and continue improving their skills.
